BREEZE BESPOKE

Designer:

Varun Tejas Mehta

Year:

2023

Overview:

Sited at Queen Victoria Gardens Melbourne, the project was to create a pavilion design for MPavilion. The Design aims to create a floating space that is rhythmic and feels alive. Keeping costs and sustainability in mind, I wished to achieve this by taking advantage of the wind's kinetic energy and integrating it within my design, using it as a driving force to move mechanical pieces placed on the elevations of the pavilion. The movement of the mechanical pieces was inspired by Theo Jansons's Caterpillar wind sculpture, alongside the wind-capturing mechanism, which was inspired by his Strandbeest sculpture, resulting in a pavilion that operates in harmony with the wind, creating rhythmic movements and a soothing atmosphere.
